Medieval 2 has a learning curve to it, one that you will only learn after getting a few bumps and bruises to show for it.In the grand campaign game seventeen factions are playable. Personally I HATE the new engine they're using, I pray to God / Allah / Cthulu they abandon it for Warhammer 2 (fat chance). Rome 2 and on stripped out a lot of mechanics, which turned a lot of veteran players off to the newer games. Overall there is more stuff to do in the older TW games. There are stats, but they're easier to understand, and they're represented with small numbers, so it's simpler to overall gauge their abilities. Medieval 2 doesn't bog you down with odious stats and garbage like that. Lot of Warhammer's combat mechanics were just stupid and inconsistent (like seriously my 3 units of demigryph knights losing to 1 unit of chaos knights? wut?). Conversely I would pull a win out of my a$$ in seemingly insurmountable odds and just not know how I did it. Warhammer, I just could not figure out why I would lose sometimes.

Maybe it was me, but when it comes to Medieval 2 combat, I understand everything. If all of your male family members die, you lose the game. Keeping your family happy and active is a key part of the game.Īlso, generals are not like your lords in Warhammer, they are their own unit with numbers in it, and they can be easily killed, so you have to watch what you do with them. Your family tree is pretty much your nation's royal family, consisting of princes (generals) and princesses (diplomatic agents). Medieval has lots of agents to utilize for various campaign map shenanigans, and there is also a family tree to manage, which IMO is the most important aspect of the game. Warhammer is much more combat focused and the battles / turns are much faster. In terms of raw mechanics, there is a world of difference. I've played both Warhammer, Medieval vanilla, and am currently playing Stainless Steel right now. so maybe you are a veteran, in terms of mechanics and gameplay what does Total war medieval 2 differ from warhammer total war?
